Improved procedure for electro-spinning and carbonisation of neat solvent-fractionated softwood Kraft lignin

Abstract In general, the electro-spinning of lignin requires it to be functionalised and/or blended with synthetic or natural polymers. This paper reports on use solvent fractionated lignin-lignin blend electro-spin BioChoice softwood Kraft lignin. The consisted acetone-soluble and ethanol-soluble in a binary acetone DMSO. Solvent fractionation was used purify where ash content reduced soluble fractions from 1.24 ~ 0.1%. corresponding value after conventional acid-washing sulphuric acid 0.34%. A custom-made apparatus produce nano-fibres. Heat treatment procedures were developed for drying electro-spun fibres prior oxidation carbonisation; this done prevent fibre fusion. oxidised at 250 °C, carbonised 1000 1200 °C 1500 °C. cross-section circular they observed void-free. longitudinal sections showed that not fused. Thus, procedure demonstrated can without using plasticisers polymer blends common laboratory solvents subsequently carbon cross-section.
